Phase 2 Kicking Horse Trans Canada Highway Project

In August 2005, Transpark Highway Constructors, a Flatiron/Parsons JV, was awarded a design build contract to construct Phase 2 of the Kicking Horse Pass construction project. As part of the project requirements, TPHC was required to perform all quality control. This project was Flatiron’s first major Canadian design build project and the project had a very aggressive schedule. In order to get the project started very quickly and address early staffing requirements and to ensure that quality control personnel were knowledgeable with local BC M.o.T. specifications, TPHC subcontracted the quality control work to Highway Technical Engineering Services Ltd. Their scope of work included field inspection and documentation, concrete and soil testing, and surveying. The personnel they supplied were very team oriented and provided excellent service to the construction management staff. The personnel were well received by the project owner as they had a reputation of performing previous work for BC M.o.T.  The HTES staff worked with the project designers and the owner’s quality surveillance staff to ensure the product delivered met or exceeded all client and stakeholder requirements.
